Our data, and how we use it
Last updated: July 2026
Everything in a TradeChecker report comes from official UK public records. We do not hold a credit file, a credit score, or any private data about a company or its people. What we add is interpretation, we read the public record and give a plain-English opinion.
Where the data comes from
| Source | What we use it for | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| Companies House | Company status, incorporation, accounts, filing history, charges (secured debt), people with significant control, and officer (director) records. | Open Government Licence v3.0 (© Crown copyright) |
| The Gazette | Official public notices, insolvency, winding-up and strike-off notices. | Open Government Licence v3.0 (© Crown copyright) |
| The Insolvency Register | Recorded insolvency events against a company. | Open Government Licence v3.0 (© Crown copyright) |
| The Disqualified Directors register | Whether a director has been disqualified by a court, confirmed by matching name and date of birth, never on name alone. | Open Government Licence v3.0 (© Crown copyright) |
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
What we are not
We are not a credit reference agency. We do not provide a credit score, a credit limit, or county court judgment (CCJ) data, those are held by licensed bureaux and we do not touch them. Our score is a public-record risk indicator, our opinion drawn from the public facts shown on each report, not a credit rating.
Personal data about directors and owners
Some of what we show, a director's name, the month and year of birth Companies House publishes, their role, is personal data about a real person. That data is not covered by the Open Government Licence (which excludes personal data). We process it under UK GDPR on the basis of our legitimate interest in helping businesses avoid trading losses, balanced against the individual's rights. We only ever repeat what the public register already states, as a dated fact, and never as an accusation. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Accuracy, dates, and putting things right
Every report shows the date we read the record. Public records change, and a report is a snapshot of that moment, always check the live position before you rely on it. If you believe a report about your company or about you is wrong, out of date, or unfair, tell us and we will review it promptly, correct or remove it where appropriate, and suppress it from search while we do.
Guidance only, our opinion from the public record. Not financial or legal advice.
